The last several days have been dreadfully cold and dreary. That said, sometimes one needs a bit more motivation to get up on such a winter morning than a cold bowl of cereal or even a healthy beverage. These petite French pastries undoubtedly get the job done. With minimal effort (this recipe I found cut out the step of making dough in lieu of using frozen puff pastry sheets), I was left with warm, flaky treats that go perfectly with a cup of peppermint mocha coffee. I plan to make anther batch this weekend using an assortment of fillings like raspberry and apricot jam, granny smith apple slices and lemon curd.
* High quality chocolate makes all the difference since you’re cutting corners with the dough. I found some excellent varieties at World Market.
